Improving your Internal Operating System and Limiting Beliefs – Gemba Academy Podcast
In this podcast, Michelle Troseth and Dr. Tracy Christopherson, founders of Missing Logic and experts in human development, draw on their healthcare transformation background to discuss internal operating systems and continuous improvement. The core of the discussion explores how a leader’s internal operating system (IOS), which is made up of their identity, beliefs, and values, can sabotage their success and leadership outcomes, often leading to burnout.
The default IOS is based on past experiences and can cause self-sabotage when it features limiting beliefs, such as the idea that “you have to work hard to be successful,” or when leaders get caught in a constant reactive mode, prioritizing urgent tasks over strategic action.
To shift this dynamic and achieve a burnout proof life, the solution begins with awareness and self-reflection, which involves asking quality questions to uncover limiting beliefs and redefine one’s desired identity. Leaders must then choose to act from the perspective of the person they want to be, consciously flipping limiting beliefs. For instance, changing “I have to work hard” to “I’m successful when I work smart” to achieve dynamic balance and personal and professional fulfillment.
